Mountain Bike World Cup Success

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

Once again the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup held at Nevis Range was an outstanding success. Over 2 days 17,000 spectators watched as 580 competitors battled it out in the Cross Country, 4 Cross and Downhill races. Whilst the weather was a little damp at times the downhill finals took place in glorious sunshine with Australian Sam Hill taking the men's crown and British rider Tracey Mosley winning the women's event infront of a home crowd.

Let's go outside...

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

A perfect day and not a midge in sight make a great day's climbing at Pol dubh Crags in Glen Nevis. A few easy climbs made a very pleasant and enjoyable first day outside this year, with plenty of time to sit and admire the views. The crags were very quiet, especially in the evening, with only a couple of other parties one of whom was scoping a new route on Repton.

Tried to avoid the classic climbing shot - but failed! Demonstrates why Cubby Images is so successful... although hoping to see many more bums as they head up climbs this summer!! Spring has sprung !!

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

The weather here in Lochaber has certainly been a mixed bag recently. After a cold, and on the mountains snowy April, May started with a bang, quite literally. The evening of Thursday 4th May bought the most intense thunderstorm activity we've seen here for a long time. Finally, and probably quite deservedly, we have seen some of the warm and sunny weather that we should be expecting at this time of the year. The last 2 days have seen wall to wall sunshine and temperatures in the low 20's. We always say that if you don't like the weather here wait 5 minutes and it will change, that has certainly been true recently but for now we'll take the sunshine!!!

Fantastic end to the ski season

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Well what a weekend it was up at Nevis Range, beautiful blue skies on Saturday gave one of the most memorable days snowboarding I've had in a long time. The snow started out firm but soon softened into excellent spring corn. It was still possible to ski the full length of the goose and above tower 4 there was wide cover. The summit runs were also in great shape with skiers and boarders hitting the jumps in the terrain park.

Though we had to wait a while for it to start it's fair to say that the recently passed ski season has probably been the best since 2001 giving many classic days. Lets all hope for another great season in 2007.
